1980 Greco SA1200, Natural

Description

A super rare, Super Real! This natural-finished Greco SA1200 is an excellent representation of just how good the top-end Japanese instruments of the "Lawsuit" era could be.

Hand-made at the legendary Fujigen Gakki factory, this is probably the nearest thing to an exact '50's spec replica produced during that period. The SA1200 delivers a warm, open, and highly articulate response, with plenty of sustain and clarity. The laminated maple body displays some very attractive birdseye figuring throughout, which works particularly well with the blonde finish and gives the guitar a distinctive look compared to the more commonly seen sunburst examples.

A major part of what makes this guitar special is its original and highly desirable Dry-Z pickups, manufactured by Maxon and widely regarded as the finest vintage-style humbuckers produced in Japan during this period. Clear, dynamic, and exceptionally responsive, they offer an impressive balance of warmth, bite, and articulation that suits the semi-hollow construction perfectly. The neck profile is a medium "slim-taper" that feels fast and easy to play.

There are definite signs of usage over the course of its life, and at some point it has had a well repaired and finished headstock break. Despite this, it remains structurally sound. Overall the finish has aged and mellowed beautifully, and the binding has yellowed giving it a stunning vintage look.

Overall a very rare opportunity to own a desirable and increasingly difficult-to-find golden-era Japanese model.

Comes in a modern brown Gibson hard case.
