Fender 1964 Princeton Reverb Reissue, USA made Hand-Wired

Description

A superb modern take on one of Fender’s most loved small-format valve amps, this Fender ’64 Custom Princeton Reverb combines classic black-panel styling with the sort of hand-wired construction that makes these a particularly appealing alternative to an original vintage example. This one is in pretty much as new condition, and even retains its original shipping box.

Made in the USA as part of Fender’s American Hand-Wired series, the ’64 Custom Princeton Reverb is built around a hand-wired Princeton circuit with valve-driven spring reverb and tremolo, giving it that familiar Fender combination of sparkle, depth and touch-sensitive response. Rated at 12 watts, it sits in that very usable sweet spot: enough volume and headroom for recording, home use and smaller gigs, but with the ability to open up and break into that lovely compressed valve drive without needing to be painfully loud.

The amp uses a pair of 6V6 power valves, with a 5AR4 rectifier and a 10" Jensen P10R alnico speaker, housed in a solid pine cabinet. It is a simple, beautifully judged setup, and very much the sort of amp that lets the guitar do the talking. Clean tones are clear, open and chimey, while pushing the volume brings in a warm, musical breakup that works especially well with single coils, P-90s and lower-output humbuckers. The onboard reverb has that classic spacious Fender character, while the tremolo adds a lovely pulsing movement without ever feeling overdone.

What makes this version especially attractive is the balance between vintage feel and modern practicality. Original mid-’60s Princeton Reverbs are now highly prized and increasingly expensive, whereas this hand-wired reissue gives you much of the character and response of the original design in a dependable, usable package that can be taken to sessions, rehearsals and gigs without the same concern that comes with a valuable vintage amp.

A great choice for players looking for classic Fender tone in a manageable, inspiring format, and a particularly good platform for pedals thanks to its clarity, dynamic response and naturally musical voicing.
